Unlocking Competitive Advantage: The Significance of Data Governance, Compliance, Security, and Privacy in Business Attendees
Tuesday, October 17, 2023 - Informatica with Indocyber held a seminar on "Unlocking Competitive Advantage: The Significance of Data Governance, Compliance, Security, and Privacy in Business" on October 17, 2023 at The Ayana Midplaza Jakarta. The event was attended by 50 participants from various companies in Indonesia.
The seminar focused on the importance of personal data and the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Law in Indonesia. The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Vice Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Nezar Patria, S.Fil., M.Sc., M.B.A, represented by Mr. Aris from Informatica. He emphasized various aspects of personal data and current efforts to protect personal data, especially in business. He also highlighted the government's policy on personal data protection as stipulated in the PDP Law.
Following the welcome address, Mr. Kresno Budoyo, Director of Indocyber, underscored the issue of data privacy. He elaborated on the increasing vulnerability to breaches and theft of personal data with the advancement of information technology and digital data dissemination. He emphasized the need for stakeholder attention, particularly in businesses, to determine mitigation strategies for protecting consumer personal data.
Furthermore, Informatica delivered a welcome address, introducing itself as one of the solutions in response to this policy and personal data issue. The event continued with a presentation by the Sub-directorate of Personal Data Protection at the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Hendri Sasmita Yuda.
In his presentation, he brought up the theme of "Types of Personal Data and the Personal Data Protection Law." He highlighted that many people still lack an understanding of the concept and types of personal data, leading to increased risks of misuse and crimes involving personal data. In response, he explained the implementation of the PDP Law as a formal legal regulation to prevent the misuse of personal data.
The second presentation was delivered by the main speaker, Senior Product Specialist, APJ - Data Governance Solutions at Informatica, Mr. Kingsley Dsouza. This topic focused more on mitigation aspects and strategies that companies can implement to comply with the national PDP Law. Mr. Kingsley presented the topic with the theme "Data Privacy and Protection." In his presentation, he explained strategies that companies can undertake concerning personal data, particularly within the realm of information technology.
The existence of the PDP Law requires every business to implement regulations within their respective internal scope. The protection of customer data is also the responsibility of the companies that collect such data. Therefore, companies need appropriate data management in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The event continued with a Q&A session involving several attending participants. Some of the discussions in this Q&A session focused on practical steps that each company should take to establish proper data management in line with the PDP Law. Additionally, they discussed technological products that can help companies efficiently and effectively implement these measures.
The event concluded with the presentation of tokens of appreciation to each speaker and a group photo session. Through this seminar, it is hoped that companies can gain insights into personal data protection and establish proper data management.
